We know at this time of the year it can be very tempting to shop around as much as possible. Hunting for the best deals and discount possible, it’s very easy to confuse being generous with just giving gifts.
While we do have our usual Christmas offers and promotions running here at Cascade, we will not be offering any further discounts or deals this coming Black Friday.
Instead, we will be donating 10% of our sales, not just from the day, but the whole weekend to the Malaria Consortium, one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other diseases among vulnerable populations in Africa and Asia.
Malaria is an infectious disease that, despite being preventable and 
treatable, threatens the lives of 3.2 billion people around the world. Every year the disease accounts for hundreds of thousands of deaths. Pregnant women and children under five years of age are especially vulnerable to this devastating disease.
The Malaria Consortium work closely with governments and national malaria control programmes, providing technical and operational support to strengthen public health services. They have worked to ensure that many millions of people have access to and properly use long lasting insecticide treated nets in areas where they are needed most.
Their field-based diagnosis has increased dramatically, improving targeting of treatment and, in the case of a positive diagnosis, they help ensure availability of high quality artemisinin-based combination therapies and train community health workers to act as the first point of contact for sick children and their care givers.
Givewell, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to finding the most effective charities out there, have the Malaria Consortium as one of their top rated charities. Givewell do not focus on the finances of a chritable organisation, but rather conduct in-depth research to determine how much good a given program accomplishes, which is an amazing thing in itself.
